1850's-1860's Base Ball Bat
Prior to the 1868 moratorium on bats exceededing 42" in length, a stiker was allowed to wield a club the size of his chosing...here is one such example.
This 47" bat was absolutely styled, milled, and used for the purpose of hitting a ball. The design, taper, and vein of cork drilled into the top of the barrel all speak to the remakeable fact that this piece dates to no later then the mid 1860's.
This bat stands out as one of the earliest pieces, of any kind, in all of our collection.
