1860s/1870s Snyder Style Bat (2)

Outstanding example of what turns out to be a true rarity. This is a circa 1860's / 1870's era bat that can be definitively dated to as early 1875 as evidenced by a catalog put out by Ward B. Snyder's sporting goods in NYC. That being said, numerous images of this very same type of bat can be seen in pictures of players and teams dating back to the years immediately following the civil war. The bat is 33" long, and bound in leather for the length of the handle. Although the leather bound examples are apparantly much harder to come by, there are other similar styles of bats from this period bound with wire or twine.
